Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice

Hi there! I am so sorry I haven't been around lately, but I will be sure to make up for the time away. I've been thinking about a post with 'Pride and Prejudice' as the theme for quite a while now. I want to share impressions about both the book and the movies [ because there are 2 versions, you know :) ]

First, the book.

(this is exactly the way my book looks. I purcheased it from it from Greece in my last summer holiday. I was walking around the resort when I found this little book-shop with lots of english-books. Plus, it cost only 4 euro. I'm telling you, that's really cheap! -_-'' )

I can say that I had some trouble reading it, because I found a lot of old words and complicated expressions and structures, but in the end, when I finished it, even though I like books in which people actually kiss, I cried. I was so happy and my heart was beating so fast that I could hear it.

For the ones that haven't read the book, it is about life in the 1800's, when the most important thing for a woman was to get married and for a mother - to see her kids married. The author tells the story in a really brilliant way. She presents us an ordinary family with 5 daughters, in which the eldest - Jane - is the most pretty and the eldest after her - Elizabeth, who represents the pride - is the most intelligent. One day, in their county arrives Mr. Bingley with his sisters and his best friend - Mr. Darcy, who represents prejudice. The story is based on the growing love, although unacknoleged by these two, between Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth.
You may think that there is nothing special about it, but I assure that it is really special, because Darcy refuses to believe that he can love a person like Elizabeth, who is beneath him, although he says she has ' nice eyes ', and Elizabeth thinks of him as the regular rich man, with his nose up high.

The way Jane Austen described each emotion, each action, each look really made me enjoy every page of the book. It was a blast. ! :)

Next, the movies.

I'm saying the movies, but it actually was one movie and a mini-series, which had 6 'episodes' and was made before the movie.

In this mini-series,  I found all the facts from the book and I was really happy, but the actors were kind of old. I didn't get the feeling of a young love in it, so I was a bit dissapointed. Also, there are no improvised moments, so it is not so natural of a story, even though, I said before, they followed the book.

Next, I watched the version in which Keira Knightly plays. This one I really enjoyes. I like the actors alot more and the plot didn't stick to the book, so it was more natural, to say so. Apart from that, at the end of the movie, they add this little scene when they kiss, but before that, Elizabeth and Darcy actually make small-talk, which is kind of fun, because we only see them arguing all across the film.

I really loved it and I hope you did too. If you didn't watch it or read it, please do. You won't regret it. Although, if you do regret, this is my personal opinion of both the book and the movies, so I am not at least a little bit sorry for recommending them to you.

Allexa.
